The Federal Green Challenge (FGC) is a national effort under the EPA’s Sustainable Materials Management Program which challenges the EPA and other federal agencies throughout the country to lead by example in reducing the federal government's environmental impact. It furthers the goals of the President’s Executive Order Regarding Efficient Federal Operations.

This engaging workshop covered effective strategies for communicating sustainability goals and efforts with your local government leadership and other stakeholders across various departments. The workshop features speakers who have successfully navigated these challenges and shared some of the lessons they have learned along the way.

 

Senate Bill 898 (SB 898) of the 82nd Texas Legislative Session amended the Texas Health and Safety Code Section 388.005 requiring political subdivisions, institutes of higher education, and state agencies in nonattainment or near nonattainment counties to establish a goal of reducing electricity consumption by at least five percent each state fiscal year beginning September 1, 2011. Recent passage of SB 241 in the 86th Texas Legislative Session, extended the percent reduction goal another seven years beginning September 1, 2019. To maintain compliance with this legislative requirement, the City Council of Fort Worth, TX developed a resolution to track their progress and document their consumption reduction.

Preliminary Energy Assessments (PEAs) recommend cost-effective resource efficiency measures that an entity can implement to decrease energy/utility consumption and costs. The State Energy Conservation Office (SECO) provides PEAs to municipal and county governments, independent school districts, county hospitals, port authorities, major airports, public water authorities and municipally-owned utilities at no cost! However, SECOs PEA services apply only to public indoor administrative or teaching facilities and infrastructure owned and operated by the public entity requesting the service.
