The Simply Sustainable Denton website is a hub for the city’s Simply Sustainable: A Framework for Denton’s Future plan. The plan was updated in 2020 and outlines eight different focus areas along with comprehensive goals and strategies that aim for a more sustainable community. The update to Simply Sustainable includes new strategies based on best practices, STAR Communities/ LEED for Cities goals and community feedback. The Vision and Guiding Principles remained the same moving forward, while the focus areas and goals expanded to include additional strategies to further the city's sustainability as a community.

An NCTCOG-hosted webinar on the water-energy nexus. Topics include the environmental and financial benefits of water conservation, and strategies to achieve energy use reduction goals. 

The the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) is challenging organizations to set ambitious, portfolio-wide GHG emission reduction goals. This effort provides additional opportunities for peer exchange and technical assistance to meet the urgent call to mitigate the impacts of climate change. Through the Better Climate Challenge, organizations can partner with DOE to reduce portfolio-wide GHG emissions (scope 1 & 2) by at least 50% within 10 years. DOE will provide technical assistance and opportunities to learn and share actionable best practices for carbon reduction.

Energy Efficiency Day promotes the benefits of year-round energy efficiency.

Facility retrofits are a beneficial way to improve energy and water efficiency and reduce overall consumption and save money. This workshop will explore ways local governments can implement facility retrofits to reduce overall consumption within their own facilities.

The Energy Efficiency for Water Utilities Factsheet is designed to assist water and wastewater treatment providers in addressing the water-energy nexus, or energy usage within water utility operations. The factsheet provides resources and opportunities for energy savings among water utilities across all stages of operation.

The NCTCOG whitepaper Integration of Energy Resilience into Hazard Mitigation Planning is intended to provide local governments and hazard mitigation planners with an assortment of energy resilience options to consider for incorporation into their Hard Mitigation Plans. The whitepaper is accompanied by the complementing Best Management Practices for Incorporating Energy Resilience into Hazard Mitigation Planning.

Texas is accustomed to extreme swings in weather and natural disasters which can impact the reliability and availability of energy services. These disasters are expected to increase as we deal with the impacts of a changing climate, leaving local governments in a position where more than ever they may need to consider incorporating energy resilience plans into their Hazard Mitigation Plans. 

Some of the options outlined in the whitepaper are faster to implement with quick wins while others take a longer-range planning approach with significant investment to ensure the greatest measure of energy resilience. Communities are encouraged to consider which measures best suit their needs, capabilities, budget, scale, and desired level of energy resilience.
