STAR Communities

STAR Communities certifies sustainable communities through the STAR Community Rating System, which assesses economic, environmental, and social performance measures. The eight categories are Built Environment; Climate and Energy; Economy and Jobs; Education, Arts and Community; Equity and Empowerment; Health and Safety; Natural Systems; and Innovation and Process. Three certification levels are possible: 3-STAR, 4-STAR, and 5-STAR Community designations. The City of Plano became a 4-STAR Certified Community in May 2015.
