U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service- National Fish Passage Program

U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service- National Fish Passage Program

Purpose:
For watershed stakeholders (communities, states, non-profits, tribes, etc.) who want to support healthy river ecosystems and reduce flood risk in the process.
Description:
The National Fish Passage Program provides technical and financial assistance for projects that support healthy fish passage, which is defined as "the ability of fish and other aquatic wildlife to move freely throughout their life." Previous development, at times, has created barriers to the free movement of fish and other aquatic life. This can result in increased flooding and damaged ecosystems. The National Fish Passage Program, since 1999, has sought to reverse these practices by installing infrastructure that reconnects natural habitats, increasing flood resilience in the process. On the program page, viewers can find an interactive data dashboard that details projects over the years. They will also find information on all the available services.
